James Edward Coddington

September 15, 2026 Dignity Memorial

James E. Coddington (Jim) of Oak Lawn, Illinois, was born September 3, 1949, in Hawthorne, California, to Clint and Louise Coddington. He attended Central College, making lifelong friends and graduating in 1971. After working many years for Amtrak, where he met his wife, Ingrid Coddington, he went on to work as an auditor in academia and healthcare, distinguishing himself with his integrity and dependability until his retirement in 2011. He spent his remaining years tending to his garden, enjoying the company of friends and family, and doting on his grandson, James L. Coddington. Jim was a true benefit to this world as a lifelong learner, sportsman, world traveler, steward of the environment, and lover of all humanity.

He is survived by and will be especially missed by his wife, Ingrid; son, James; grandson, James; daughter-in-law, Maria; brother, Steve; nieces, Darla C. and Tina S.; and good friends John and Pam Grieco, Roger and Jinni Stoll, Anna William, and Tina Block, as well as his dog, Santana.

All are welcome to attend a celebration of Jim’s life at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home in Oak Lawn on September 26. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a brief service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or WTTW Chicago
