Janice Kay (Dickey) Bullard

Janice Kay Dickey Bullard, age 72, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 20, 2026, in Temple, Texas.

She was born in Rotan, Texas, on October 5, 1953, the daughter of Ben Joel Dickey and Dorothy Mavis Terry Dickey. She grew up in Snyder, Texas, in a family of five children: her two brothers, Curtis Preston and Jerry, and her two sisters, Shirley and Tammy.

Janice’s faith in Christ began at an early age and remained a central part of her life. She was actively involved in her church, playing piano and helping with various programs. She was also an active student, participating in activities such as cheerleading, choir, and office work. In high school, she served as president of the pep club and was a member of other organizations such as the National Honor Society.

After graduating from Snyder High School, home of the Tigers (her favorite animal!), Janice attended Western Texas College, where she earned an Associate in Arts degree, graduating magna cum laude. Her academic achievement reflected her lifelong high standards and dedication.

After college, Janice moved to Austin with her close friends, Barbara and Stephanie, and began her career with the State of Texas. She eventually became a supervisor in the Quality Control Statistical Unit of the Texas Department of Human Services, earning a Distinguished Service Award near the end of her tenure of more than ten years. Her careful attention to detail and commitment to doing things well were hallmarks of her work.

It was during her time working for the state that she met her husband, Miles. They married in 1984 and began building their life together. Shortly after the birth of her son Chad, she left her position with the state to focus on raising her family. She was actively involved with school support organizations, always willing to give her time and lend a hand wherever one was needed.

As her family grew older, Janice returned to the workforce, joining Pflugerville Vision Care as an Accounts Receivable Manager. She continued working there for more than 25 years. Her reliability and strong work ethic made her someone others could depend on, and she formed lasting relationships with the people she worked alongside.

Janice devoted the majority of her life to building up others. Her strong Christian faith was evident in the warmth, compassion, and encouragement she freely extended to those around her. A deeply loyal and dependable friend, she had a unique wit that often came through when those closest to her lovingly gave her a hard time. For her family, she was a constant presence, opening her home and stepping in whenever a relative was in need. Keeping up with her children, grandchildren, and extended family brought her great joy, and she spoke of them with great pride and affection. With her husband, Miles (Dusty), she was a devoted partner, championing him and his military career at every opportunity.

She formed lasting relationships through her more than 35 years at First Baptist Church Pflugerville and, more recently, through the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 154. Both gave her countless opportunities to serve, encourage, and care for people beyond her immediate family. She never needed recognition for her efforts, yet those she touched often lifted her up in ways they may never have even realized.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Ben Joel Dickey and Dorothy Mavis Terry Dickey; her brother, Curtis Preston; and her sister, Tammy.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Miles; her children, Chad, Duston, Aaron, Christeen, Yvonne, and Danette; her ten grandchildren, Kaydon, Logan, Sarah, Brandon, Devon, Kaila, Daniel, Jasmine, Jade, and JR; her brother, Jerry; and her sister, Shirley.

Janice will continue to live on through and beyond the many people into whom she so faithfully poured her time, love, and encouragement. Her influence will remain a lasting testament to a life through which God was continually at work.
