Jean-Paul Fortier

It is with great sadness, but with hearts filled with gratitude for the life he lived, that we announce the passing of Jean-Paul Fortier on July 25, 2026, at the age of 92.

Born in Sainte-Justine-de-Beauce, Quebec, on September 14, 1933, Jean-Paul grew up in Hallebourg, Ontario, and spent his adult life in the Ottawa–Gatineau region.

Throughout his life, Jean-Paul was distinguished by his unwavering desire to help others. His work with young people and his commitment to human rights reflected his compassion, fairness, and deep respect for human dignity. His family was at the heart of his life, and he generously shared his passions for nature, gardening, and music, finding joy and wonder even in the simplest of instruments.

He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his unconditional love, and the warmth and comfort he brought to his home. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Jean-Paul was predeceased by his parents Alfred Fortier and Éva Baillargeon. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 61 years, Jacqueline Ouellette; his five children: France, Pierre (Rebekah), Julie (Manuel), Joelle (Pete), and Robert; and his 14 cherished grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life: Jacob, Gaby (Amy), Lia, Celeste, Thomas, Ana, Alexis, Samuel, Maxwell, Elie, Danika, Ema, Morgane, and Sarah. The last surviving member of his siblings, Jean-Paul is reunited with his three brothers and ten sisters who predeceased him. He also leaves behind his brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
