Jerry Wayne Sloop

Jerry Wayne Sloop, 84, died May 28, 2026. Born March 19, 1942, Jerry lived a life marked by steady devotion to family, diligent work, and a thoughtful spirit that showed in both his profession and the quiet joys he chose for himself. A resident of Shallotte, North Carolina, he will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude by all who knew him.

A retired Mechanical Engineer, Jerry built a career defined by skill, reliability, and the kind of work ethic that never needed an audience. During his working years, he was employed with Pfizer and later served as an Instructor at Brunswick Community College. He also worked for the City of Southport with the electrical engineering department. With a degree in mechanical engineering, he was rarely without a project to be done—approaching each task with care, patience, and a mind attentive to details.

Beyond his work, Jerry found lasting enjoyment in reading, especially history, and he carried that interest with the quiet reflection of someone who valued understanding and perspective. He loved the beach and fishing, and those simple, steady pleasures suited him—unhurried, grounded, and sincere. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and his family was the center of his life.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Diane Sloop of the home; two daughters, Cris Godwin (Kevin) of Sanford, N.C. and Katie Sloop of Awendaw, S.C.; a son, Michel “Chad” Marcum (Cammie) of Ash, N.C.; grandchildren, Hunter Godwin of Cary, N.C., Chasity and Cody Marcum; great-grandchildren, Cayden Gathings, Lindy and Bryson Marcum all of Shallotte; and a brother, Michel Sloop (Sylvia) of Concord, N.C.
