Jewel Davenport, 96, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose life was defined by family, hard work, and an appreciation for life’s simple joys.
The youngest of 12 children, Jewel grew up on the family farm, where she learned the value of hard work and the importance of family. At 19, she married the love of her life, Johnny, and together they raised four children.
A talented seamstress by trade, Jewel found joy in sewing, quilting, working puzzles, gardening, and tending to her flowers. She had a true green thumb and a special love for birds and the beauty of nature. She also possessed an unmatched, wonderfully dry and witty sense of humor. Her quick wit and perfectly timed comments often brought laughter to her family when they least expected it.
Jewel will be remembered for her gentle spirit, creativity, humor, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her 96 years were filled with love, laughter, cherished memories, and a beautiful legacy that will live on through the generations who loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Sewell and W.J. Henderson; husband, Johnny Davenport; sisters, Gracie, Ida Mae, Myrtle, and Evelyn; brothers, J.T., Willard, William, Pettice, Raymond, Grady, Arlis; children, Dan Davenport, Chris Davenport, and Kathy Dutton; grandchildren, Angie Davenport, Misty Darden, and Nikki Abbott; great-grandchild, Peyton Abernathy.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Darden of Brent, AL; grandchildren, Jon Darden (Mary), Nathan Davenport (Brittany), Jessica Barnes, Michelle Abernathy, and Lee Davenport; 15 great grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
