John Edward Loeffler III

September 25, 2026 Dignity Memorial

John Edward Loeffler, III, age 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by his immediate family on September 25, 2026, after a brave battle with Alzheimer’s.

John was born on August 24, 1944, in Texas City, Texas, to John Edward Loeffler, Jr. and Audrey Evaline Loeffler. In 1963, John graduated from Charles F. Brush High School in Lyndhurst, Ohio, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio Northern University. After graduation, he took the pledge of the Order of the Engineer, committing to uphold the devotion to standards and dignity of the engineering profession, a pledge he honored throughout a distinguished career spanning just shy of 50 years. While working full-time to support his family, being a devoted husband, and parenting a 2-year-old with a second child on the way, John earned his MBA from Baldwin Wallace University in Ohio.

On October 26, 1968, John married the love of his life, Patricia Kay ("PK") Loeffler. He devoted his life to loving and protecting his family above all else. Together, John and PK raised their two children, Christopher John Loeffler and Katharine Loeffler Both, in Houston, Texas, nurturing them into faithful, strong, and independent adults. John was a father who made sure his children knew he supported them "no matter what."

A man of deep devotion, John served as a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church USA and was an active Assistant Scoutmaster, guiding many young men toward earning the rank of Eagle Scout.

Affectionately known as "Papa" to his grandchildren, Katelyn Diane Loeffler (17), Grayson, Price Both (20) and Evan Anthony Both (17), John was a grandfather who was always down on the floor playing, always had a "special item" tucked into the pocket of his plaid button-down shirt, and made time to attend as many of their activities as possible. He showed his family what a man of true faith and strength looks like, and his arms were always open for a hug, just as his ears were always ready to listen.

John was an avid woodworker who crafted beautiful furniture and clocks for his family to treasure as heirlooms. As a native Texan, mastering barbecue was a point of pride and boy, did he master it. John always had a rod and reel ready, loving nothing more than fishing with family and friends. He was a true outdoor enthusiast who found joy sailing, kayaking, camping, and cycling. When he was no longer able to ride the MS 150 himself, he continued his involvement as a SAG (Safety and Gear) driver, offering assistance to riders in need during training and the main event.

Guided by his heart for others, John served as a mentor in the Katy ISD KEYS program, helping children recognize their worth and realize who they could become. His spiritual journey was deeply enriched through The Walk to Emmaus retreat, where his faith grew even deeper. Above all, John’s bright smile lit up every room, and he made sure everyone around him felt welcomed, valued, and heard.

As patriarch of the Loeffler family, John is survived by his loving wife of almost 58 years, PK; son, Chris Loeffler (wife Stacey and daughter Katelyn); daughter, Katie Both (husband Tony and sons Grayson and Evan); brother, Paul Loeffler (wife Cindi; daughter Devon Allen, [husband, Chester Fincke, daughter Madeline Hilton, {husband Blake}, daughter, Caroline], son Michael, (wife Alicia, son, Samuel, daughter, Audrey); youngest brother, Charles Loeffler (wife Cindy; son Colin, [wife Christina, daughters, Hattie and Poppy]; son, Thomas); as well as several beloved cousins and extended family members.
