John Sherar Jr., age 94, of Merced, California, entered Heaven's gates on June 9, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on December 12, 1931, in Colony, Oklahoma, to John and Elsie Sherar.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, and dedicated 33 years of service to the Merced City Fire Department, retiring as Captain in 1989. He was also a surveyor and known for his faith, love of the outdoors, and his family.
John is survived by his wife Linda, daughters Jeretta Neitz (Dan) and Holly McComb (David), son Kyle Sherar, brother Bob Sherar, grandchildren Desiree Avila (Dario), Jonathan (Meghan), Zachary McComb (Annie), Michael Incardona (Jackie), and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and granddaughter Hope Incardona.
