John Steele

Mr John Steele, aged 96 years, passed away peacefully at home in Hinchinbrooke on
Friday October 16 th 2026. He was the beloved husband of the late Brenda Steele. He
leaves to mourn his children Shona and Gavin (Laura), his grandchildren Amber and
Dylan Steele, and his nephew John Wilson (Connie) & niece Linda Rennie (Gordon), as
well as many other family members. Predeceased by his brother William Steele and
sister Elizabeth Wilson (nee Steele).
John grew up in Hinchinbrooke, QC on the family farm, a well-known member of the
community. He was passionate about his farm, taking pride in the care of his land and
his orchard. In his younger years, he was a keen bowler. His sharp mind, wit, and
knowledge of the valley, both its history and people, always made for interesting
conversations. He will be greatly missed by many.
The family would like to thank the supportive & compassionate caretakers of the
Huntingdon CLSC palliative care team for making him so comfortable throughout his
final days at home.
A graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery on November 7 th at 11am;
reception to follow at Rennie’s United Church. In lieu of flowers, any donations in John
name can be made to Rennie’s United Church or the Barrie Memorial Hospital.
