John W. Tyler

John W. Tyler (Jack) of Old Saybrook, CT passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was born May 9, 1947 in New Rochelle, NY and grew up in Medford Lakes, NJ, graduating from Lenape Regional High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Windham College in Vermont, and had an accomplished career in sales, retiring in 2013 as Vice President of Sales for Clark Solutions.

Jack and his wife, Andrea, were married in 1976 in Massachusetts, where they lived for five years. They then relocated to Marietta, Georgia for four years, but ultimately returned to New England and settled in Old Saybrook, where they’ve lived for 40 years. Jack’s passing comes just before their 50th wedding anniversary.

Throughout his life, Jack sought adventure, love, and connection. He lived in multiple countries and traveled regularly, making friends wherever he went. He jumped out of planes, sailed through a hurricane, and even survived an arrow to the head, but Jack was happiest on the water. An avid boater and fisherman, he was affectionately referred to as Captain Jack.

When he wasn’t on the water, he could be found on the golf course, playing cards or darts, or sharing a laugh with friends. He was always the life of the party and never missed the opportunity to crack a joke, right until the end. Jack was known for his bright blue eyes and infectious smile that matched his giant heart.His greatest joy was being a “Pop” to his grandchildren, and he relished the time he spent with them.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, John and Madeline Tyler, and his sister Judith Carrington. He is survived and greatly missed by his wife, Andrea Tyler, and their daughters, Erin Tyler and her partner Rob Puppa, Meghan Moran and her husband Michael Moran; and his son Chase Tyler and his husband Bradford Scobie, and his daughter Kara Tyler and her husband Al Twist. Additionally, he is remembered by his five grandchildren, Reagan, Hadley, Riley, Henry, and Annabelle, and his brothers Donald Tyler and his wife Mercedes, Douglas Tyler and his wife Liz, seven nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the care team at Yale New Haven Hospital for the compassion they showed in Jack’s final days. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Swan Funeral Home in Old Saybrook on Sunday, September 6th. Visiting hours are open from 11am-1pm. Formal attire is not necessary, and black is not expected.
