Jose Alfonso Rascon, 68, of Surprise, Arizona, passed away on September 5, 2026. Born September 21, 1957, Jose lived a life marked by steady devotion to others, quiet strength, and a generosity of spirit that showed itself not in grand displays, but in consistent, thoughtful care. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
Raised in Willcox, Arizona, Jose graduated from Willcox High School in 1975, where he played football—an early reflection of the discipline and hard work that would remain hallmarks throughout his life.
In 1975, Jose enlisted in the United States Air Force and served with pride and dedication. He was stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina from 1976 to 1978, then deployed to Yokota, Japan from 1978 to 1981. After returning to the United States, he served additional years at Fort Campbell in TN/KY. In recognition of his faithful service, he earned the AF Good Conduct Medal, the AF Longevity Service Ribbon, and the AF Outstanding Unit Award.
Jose’s life was also shaped by deep love and commitment to family. He met his first wife, Terry Sikes, and they married in 1977, sharing their lives together until her passing in 1981. He later met Jeanne Barry, and they were married on August 5, 1989. Through the years, Jose carried himself with a selfless steadiness—someone others could rely on, someone whose compassion was practical and real.
Those who knew Jose will remember a man of many interests and capable hands. He found lasting enjoyment in aviation, and he was drawn to mechanical work with the kind of patient focus that turns curiosity into skill. He also took pride in guns and ammunition, valued the history and detail of coin collecting, and in his younger years, he enjoyed wood working—crafts that suited his careful nature and appreciation for how things are built and how they endure.
More than anything, Jose will be remembered for how he showed up for the people he loved. He was the one who called—simply to make sure his brothers and sisters were doing good. He offered help without hesitation, gave the best advice with a wise steadiness, and brought warmth to serious moments with a gentle, well-timed humor. In countless ordinary ways, he made life better for others, and that is a legacy that lasts. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Sante of Surprise and Hospice of the Valley for their care and support.
Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Martina Rascon. He is survived by his spouse, Jeanne Rascon; his siblings, Raul Rascon, Armida Harrel (Victor Harrel), Jesus Rascon, Nelida Rascon, Carmen Cooley, and Idalia Rascon; his grandchildren, James Rich, Anna Rich, Amanda Rich, Jamie Rich, Allison Rich, and Jacqueline Rich; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In the words he lived by and left with those he loved: “Be Good and Be Safe.”
