Joyce Susan (Arle) Reidy Rivenburgh, lovingly known as Joyce, was born on August 27, 1944 in Bristol, Connecticut, to Emil and Marie (Sonstrom) Arle, the youngest of six children. She passed away in Wilmington, North Carolina on May 16, 2026 at the age of 81.

Joyce grew up in Bristol and graduated from Bristol High School. She began her professional career at Aetna Insurance in Hartford, Connecticut, where she worked for many years.

She was predeceased by her parents, Emil and Marie Arle; her husbands, James Reidy and Harold Rivenburgh; and her brother, Emil David Arle of Fallston, Maryland.

Joyce is survived by her beloved son, Timothy Reidy of Albany, New York, who was the greatest joy of her life. She is also survived by her siblings: Marie MacDermid of Plymouth, Connecticut; Norman and Pat Arle of Enfield, Connecticut; Linda and Bill Duval of Westfield, Massachusetts; and Arthur Arle of Novato, CA. She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will fondly remember her cheerful notes, kind spirit, and warm presence.

After marrying James Reidy, Joyce lived in several Connecticut communities including Hartford, Barkhamsted,and Amston, She also resided in South Windsor, Rocky Hill, and Bristol, Connecticut. Later in life, while her son was away at college, she met Harold Rivenburgh, whom she happily married in Bristol.

Together they retired to Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, where Joyce became active in her church and community. She enjoyed bowling, card games, and spending time with friends and neighbors. Joyce’s warmth, kindness, and joyful personality touched many lives.

A Memorial Service in honor of Joyce will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Saint Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5869 Ocean Highway, Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina 28469.
