Juan Antonio Maldonado Lopez

Juan Antonio Maldonado Lopez, lovingly known to many as “Toñito” to his family and “Dr. Maldonado” to many passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, at the age of 70.

Born on March 28, 1956, in Puerto Rico, Juan built a life centered around family, compassion, laughter, and service to others. He eventually made his home in Anadarko, Oklahoma, where he dedicated his life to caring for his patients as a respected medical doctor. Becoming a physician was one of his proudest accomplishments, and he carried that responsibility with both skill and heart. He was equally proud of the accomplishments of his children and found great joy in watching his family grow across generations.

Juan shared 45 loving years of marriage with his wife, Carmen Bird Pico. Together they built a family that remained at the center of his life. He is survived by his wife Carmen; his son, Juan Jose Maldonado Bird and daughter-in-law Maria Viramontes; his daughter, Beatriz Alvilda Maldonado Bird and son-in-law Max Kovalov; his grandchildren, Erika, Erik, and Natalia; and his great-grandchildren, Remington and Amelia. He is also survived by his brother, Jose Alberto Maldonado Lopez, and his sisters, Maria Isabel Maldonado Lopez and Carmen Rosa Maldonado Lopez. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dr. Maldonado was a proud member of the Oklahoma State Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, and the Knights of Columbus. Yet titles and honors only told part of his story. Those who knew him best remember a man with a tremendous sense of humor and a deep love for life. He never cared whether someone was rich or poor — he treated everyone with kindness, dignity, and compassion. Family always came first, and he constantly worried about and cared for those he loved.

Juan enjoyed smoking cigars, savoring a good glass of spirits, and most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren. Friends, family, and patients alike will remember his warm smile marked by a familiar dimple, the unmistakable expression of his raised eyebrow that could silence a room, and the habit of sticking out his tongue whenever he was concentrating or upset — small gestures that became unforgettable parts of who he was.

Juan’s presence, humor, wisdom, and love will be deeply missed, but the impact he made on his family, friends, patients, and community will live on for generations.

A Memorial will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 Northwest Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73162, US, on May 30, 2026, at 10:00 am.
