June Gaddy Hassell was born on July 20, 1931, in Montgomery. She was a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School (Class of 1949) and Huntingdon College, and received an M. Ed. from AUM. June was one of Alabama's first Licensed Professional Counselors, working in mental health fields and private practice. She was deeply dedicated to her family, attending her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting events, and was a voracious reader and movie lover. Known for her feistiness, intelligence, and humor, she lived independently until her peaceful death at her home on May 2, 2026.
