Karen Ann Price, 75, passed away on August 8, 2026, surrounded by family. Born March 25, 1951, in Lubbock, Texas, Karen was the first child of Stanley and Joyce Smith. She attended Monterey High School and graduated with the class of 1969.
For over 40 years, Karen devoted herself to the art and craft of hairdressing, bringing both skill and care to everyone who sat in her chair. She taught at Dunbar High School from 1984 to 1992, obtained her instructor's license from Jessie Lee's Beauty School, and went on to serve as an instructor at Jessie Lee's Beauty School for many years. Karen truly loved her students and took deep pride in keeping up with their achievements over time. She was exceptionally talented in hair design and even traveled with beauty supply companies to display her artistry in hair shows. Her professional journey also included work at several salons, including The Upper Room, Davidson Taylor, The Extension, Lords and Ladies, and the Gallery, until her retirement in 2010.
In the fall of 1986, Karen met the love of her life, Charles Price, and they were married on March 18, 1987. Together they shared 39 beautiful years, building a life marked by devotion and steadfast partnership. Karen also embraced and loved Charlie’s three children—Sandra, Jeremiah, and Alice—holding them close as family.
Karen’s home reflected the warmth she extended to others—beautifully kept and thoughtfully decorated, especially during the holidays. She was an avid crafter and an exceptional quilter and seamstress, often expressing her love through intricate quilts made for family and dear friends. Karen was a proud member of the quilting community in the Lubbock area and online. She valued the friendships she formed with fellow quilters across the United States and enjoyed meeting at one of her favorite local quilting shops, Patty's Heart, to create alongside others and help educate aspiring quilters.
A cherished presence in the lives of many, Karen had a gift for making gatherings feel special. She delighted in hosting parties for friends and family, including festive Halloween celebrations that captured her playful spirit and quick wit. At Christmas, she took joy in cooking for family and guests, often preparing large elaborate meals – all of which were delicious. She also took pride in decorating her numerous Christmas trees and showcasing her collection of ornaments. Each year, she hosted an ornament party, welcoming loved ones to exchange ornaments and share in the season’s meaning.
Karen was met at the Pearly Gates of Heaven by her parents, Stanley and Joyce Smith, and her brother, Richard Timothy “Timmy” Smith.
