Loretta Ann Coyne Sweikata

September 19, 2026 Dignity Memorial

Loretta Ann Coyne Sweikata, 87, passed away on September 19, 2026. She was born July 28, 1939, in New York to James and Edna Coyne.

Loretta and her husband, Gerard L. “Jerry” Sweikata, shared 64 years of marriage and raised three children. They were rarely apart, whether Jerry liked it or not, and enjoyed traveling with lifelong friends. They especially loved cruising, including a memorable trip to Alaska.

Fiercely independent and strong-willed, Loretta was never afraid to cause a little trouble. Her family will especially remember her roast beef, a longtime favorite at gatherings, and her love of Christmas and the traditions that brought everyone together. She was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Belleview, Florida.

Loretta is survived by her children, Donna Kavanagh of Hartsville, South Carolina; Stephen (Sharon) Sweikata of Ridgeville, South Carolina; and Glen (Sandra) Sweikata of Jacksonville, Florida.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Elizabeth (David) Clark of Hartsville, South Carolina; Rebecca Sweikata of Delray Beach, Florida; and Jonathan (Hannah) Sweikata of Jacksonville, Florida; as well as her great-grandchildren, Lee Kavanagh and Baylee Clark.

She is also survived by her sister, Eileen Coyne (Naomi Carroll), and her sister Veronica Phillips and her husband, Lawrence, of The Villages, Florida.

Loretta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerard L. Sweikata, who passed away on August 18, 2023; her parents, James and Edna Coyne; her son-in-law, Kevin Kavanagh; and her grandson, Christopher Kavanagh.

Loretta lived life on her own terms, leaving those who loved her with countless stories and memories of the unmistakable way she made her presence known.
