LYNN BAGLEY KING passed away in New Braunfels, TX on September 29, 2026 after a lengthy illness. She was age 91.
Lynn Louise Bagley was born in Missoula, MT on April 16, 1935, the first daughter of Martin and Avis Bagley. Young Lynn King (who was known to her family by the nickname “Willie”) grew up primarily in Spokane, WA before the family moved to Alexandria, LA in the late 1940s. She was a 1953 graduate of Bolton High School in Alexandria, where she was an excellent student and a member of the 1950-52 Bolton Bruins pep squads. She remained close to many of her high school classmates throughout her life.
Lynn attended Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (now known as Louisiana Tech University) in Ruston, was a member of the Beta Sigma Omicron sorority, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1957. Her college studies were made possible primarily by the generosity of her maternal grandfather, Harry Koike, a first generation naturalized American citizen who was born in Japan.
While working as an administrative assistant for the Magnolia Petroleum Company in Alexandria, Lynn was re-introduced to a high school classmate, William Riley King, Jr., the son of William and Gertrude King of Pineville. They dated, and were wed on March 26, 1959 at University Methodist Church in Baton Rouge.
After moving to Dallas with Mobil Oil Company (the successor to Magnolia), Lynn and Bill had two sons, Robert (born 1961) and Donald (born 1962). She was a homemaker, a Boy Scout den mother and a frequent political campaign volunteer. After moving to Houston in 1975, Lynn re-entered the workforce as an administrative assistant at Northbrook and Stratford High Schools in Houston. She made a number of long-lasting friendships among the faculty and staff of those schools.
In her retirement years she and Bill traveled as often as they could until health would no longer permit. Her favorite destinations were the Pacific Northwest and the Austrian Alps. They lived their final years together at the Eagles Trace retirement community in far west Houston, where they made many wonderful friends and where she volunteered at the Eagles Trace library. Less than two years after Bill’s passing, Lynn moved into the Élan Westpointe assisted living community in New Braunfels, TX, where she could be near her surviving son Robert and his wife Julie.
Lynn was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She was predeceased by her parents, Martin Hugh Bagley and Avis Koike Bagley; by her husband of 64 years, William Riley King, Jr.; by her son Donald William King; and by first cousins Morgan Bagley, Jr., Patrick Bagley, Robert Theroux, Kittye Flanagin Dominguez, Kiyoe Kotaki Mapps, and Ruthie Kotaki.
Lynn is survived by her son Robert Martin King; by her daughters-in-law Julie Reynolds King and Kathy Buckles King; also by her grandchildren Kalyn Ann Herrera, William Reynolds King, Jennifer Lynn Milligan and Peter Bagley King; also by her great-grandsons Julian Alexander Herrera and Zander Liam Milligan; and also by her younger sister Carol Bagley Eiswald and brother-in-law James Todd Eiswald. Additionally, she is survived by first cousins Kathleen Bagley Foto, Eleanorae Bagley Robison, Barbara Bagley Bryan, Margaret Bagley Meginley, Deborah Theroux Musto, Elizabeth Theroux Thoman, and Jack Kotaki.
Lynn was an eternally sweet soul who always put the needs of others ahead of her own.
The family thanks the wonderful people at both Élan Westpointe and at Hope Hospice, who lovingly took care of her in her final months.
There will be a small private interment ceremony at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, TX for family and close friends at a later date.
