Margaret Anne Yopp, affectionately known as “Mamaw” to the family she loved so dearly, passed away on September 19, 2026, surrounded by those who meant the most to her.
Margaret was born on September 3, 1945, in Beeville, Texas, to Madeline and Louis Thompson. She married James L. Yopp on May 27, 1963, and they built a life and family until his passing on June 5, 2019.
A determined and hardworking woman, Margaret returned to school and proudly graduated from Memphis State University in December 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business.
She loved quilting, traveling, working puzzles, playing board games, and spending time with her family. She shared many adventures with her quilting group, the WAGS—known as the “Whoop-Ass Girls.”
Family trips to Paris Landing State Park were some of the most treasured memories, filled with tubing, skiing, laughter, and stories.
Being Mamaw was her greatest joy. She imparted special rules, like “What happens at Mamaw’s house stays at Mamaw’s house,” leading to fun secrets and lifelong memories.
Later in life, she lived in Arlington, Tennessee, with her son David and daughter-in-law Julie, remaining close to family and loved ones.
Her parents Madeline and Louis Thompson, her husband James L. Yopp, her son Danny Yopp, and siblings Richard, Martin, Louis, and Pollye Thompson preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son David with wife Julie; daughter Jeannie with husband Cliff Cochran; grandchildren Colby, Chloe, Jon, Asa, Cory, and Kevin; great-granddaughters Aurora and Nora; and siblings Robin, Betty, and Johnny Thompson.
Her legacy is a family shaped by her love, with treasured quilts, stories, and memories.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN.
