Marion "Mimi" Stein

Marion Stein, affectionately known as “Mimi”, passed away peacefully at 98 on May 23, 2026. She was born to J. Howard and Genevieve McFarland on September 22, 1927, in Cherry Tree, Pennsylvania.

After becoming a registered nurse and moving to Miami, Florida, she meet and married the love of her life, Fred, and the two shared 52 years of marriage before his passing in 2005. Their love was steady, enduring and deeply rooted in friendship and respect.

Her nursing career was multifaceted. From being there when the Miami Heart Institute first opened its doors to patients, being a scrub nurse to Dr. Herbert Virgin, orthopedic surgeon of the Miami Dolphins to her decades at South Miami Hospital. While she took pride in her professional responsibilities, her proudest role was that of devoted wife and mother.

Growing up in her beloved hometown of Cherry Tree, she enjoyed playing high school basketball and was Homecoming Queen her senior year. After moving to Miami, she enjoyed bowling and later in life BINGO. Those who had the pleasure of knowing Mimi were truly blessed beyond measure.

Mimi is survived by her son Philip (Stacey); her sister Dottie Morgan; her loving nieces Leslie Cassel, Aimee (Richard) Fried, Wendy (Lance) Turner and Cathy (Rick) Rubenstein; Janet DeL’Etoile, Donna (Lee) Long and Kathi Morgan; grandchildren Robyn (Charles) Biondo and Garrett Stein and her great-grandchild Rowan Biondo.

A memorial service to celebrate her life followed by a graveside service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 12:30pm, at Mount Nebo Kendall Memorial Gardens, 5900 SW 77th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33143, where friends and loved ones are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well lived and a woman deeply loved. Mimi will be laid to rest alongside her husband Fred and son Bob.
