It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Selvage (née McCausland) on July 7th, 2026 at the age of 91.Mary was a devoted mother to Carolyn (Steve) and Karen. She embraced motherhood with boundless love.Born in Northern Ireland in 1935. Mary was the second of six children to Daniel and Mary McCausland. We take comfort in knowing she now joins them along with her brother John and sisters Kathleen Anne and Veronica. She will be deeply missed by her loving sister Philomena and brother Vincent. Mary will be fondly remembered by her nieces Siobhán and Larissa and her nephews Martin, Barry and Tim.Mary completed her nursing training in Northern Ireland before embarking on an adventurous travel nursing journey with several friends. Arriving in Montreal by cruise ship in 1966, she travelled across Canada, readily finding employment as a skilled operating room nurse. Though each employer was saddened to see her move on, Mary was eager to discover the country. She soon met and married Joseph and started a family. Canada was now home, and she officially became a Canadian citizen in 2005.Mary will be remembered as a lovely lady whose kindness enriched the lives of so many. Her love of baking filled her home with warmth and delicious treats. She was a talented knitter and gardener and generously gave her time to others through fundraising efforts for the Heart & Stroke Foundation and volunteering at the Lakeshore General Hospital coffee shop. Mary was a devout Catholic and an active member of the Catholic Women’s League. Above all else, she was a devoted mother who was deeply cherished by her daughters.We extend our heartfelt appreciation to June, a fellow Belfast expatriate. What began as volunteer visits blossomed into a treasured friendship. Words cannot adequately express how meaningful your kindness, companionship, and support have been.Mary will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and neighbors, and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.Funeral service will be held at St Edmund of Canterbury Parish 105 Beaconsfield Blvd, Beaconsfield, QC H9W 3Z8 on Saturday, July 18th at 10am.Reception to follow at the family home in Kirkland.
