Nancy Del Carmen Diaz Soler, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and matriarch, entered into the presence of the Lord surrounded by the love of generations she helped shape. She was born on June 17, 1940, to Rafael Soler and Dolores Pierra.
Nancy met the love of her life, Ramon Diaz, affectionately known as “Monsy,” and they were married on September 26, 1959. Their love story was one of unwavering devotion, partnership, and admiration. Monsy was Nancy’s protector, voice of reason, greatest defender, and lifelong love. Together they built a beautiful family and shared a bond that remained the foundation of Nancy’s life.
Following their exile from Cuba, Nancy and Monsy came to Miami before eventually settling in St. Louis, Missouri, where they spent ten years building a beautiful life together. In a foreign country, far from the homeland they loved, Nancy faced tremendous responsibility at only 23 years old. She devoted herself completely to raising their family while also lovingly caring for her in-laws, Nena, and Ramon, whom she embraced as her own parents after being orphaned at the age of 10.
Nancy is survived by her three beloved children: Ramon Jorge, her firstborn, who opened her heart to the deep love children give their parents; Ana Consuelo, who cared for her daily and who, even as a child, always carried the weight of responsibility; and her baby girl, Alexandra Maria, the spark in her life, similar in their resemblance, quiet strength and resilience. They each loved and cherished her in their own unique ways, and Nancy adored her children beyond measure.
She is also lovingly remembered by their spouses: Jorge, Jeff and Martha who deeply feel the loss of a mother-in-law who cared for them as her own.
Despite hardship and sacrifice, Nancy created a home overflowing with love, warmth, laughter, and strength. She dedicated herself to keeping family close, always finding ways to bring everyone together. She was known for her piercing blue eyes, spectacular smile, animated storytelling, and magnetic personality. Nancy was never afraid to be the center of attention, — in fact, she relished it — and Monsy delighted in letting her shine.
At only 47 years old, Nancy became a grandmother for the first time, a role she embraced with incomparable joy and devotion. She was no longer Nancy; she became known only as Abuela.
First came Michael, her “#1,” whom she loved as if he were her own son. She adored that people often mistook him for her child, and his serious, reserved nature reminded her so much of Monsy, now only known as Abuelo.
Then came Georgie, her beloved “Ojos Bellos,” whose joy and affection filled her heart. He constantly showered her with kisses, and her eyes lit up every time she saw him.
Stephanie followed — the first granddaughter and first to inherit Abuela’s beautiful blue eyes. Abuela cherished her deeply and treasured Stephanie’s constant love and concern for her wellbeing.
Jeffrey, “her Yeffrey,” was, in Abuela’s eyes, easily the most beautiful baby ever born. As he grew, he towered over her, and she disappeared into his warm hugs, moments she cherished deeply.
Number five was Ramon Eduardo, Abuelo’s namesake, who will carry on the Diaz family legacy. He wears his heart on his sleeve, a quality Abuela also shared and loved deeply.
Then came Elizabeth whom she affectionately named “Lisisosa,” and with whom she shared a special love for animals and a deep affection for one another. Their frequent phone calls were a treasured part of Abuela’s life.
Martha, Del Carmen number seven is Abuela’s true clone — vibrant, exuberant, and full of life, with the same ability to light up every room she enters.
Eduardo Manuel, affectionately known as Meme, reminded Abuela so much of Monsy, handsome, reserved, and introspective.
And then there was Frankie, her baby, who gave Abuela every reason to remain vibrant, active, and engaged with life. Kind, sweet, and loving, he brought endless joy to her.
Abuela was also blessed with the joy of knowing her great-grandchildren: Leanna, Miles, Margot, Isabella, Emily, Christian James (“CJ”), and Caleb Jude, who now rests in Heaven in her loving arms.
But perhaps the role she cherished most was being the universal “Abuela” — not only to her grandchildren, but to everyone who needed the comfort, warmth, and unconditional love of a grandmother.
That will be her lasting legacy: to inspire us to live as she did, always giving with open arms, surrounding ourselves with family, and making everyone feel loved, welcomed, and at home.
Nancy loved the Lord deeply and lived her life centered around faith, family, and love. She now rejoices in His glorious presence, reunited with her beloved Monsy, her brothers and sisters, and sweet Caleb Jude.
May God bless her and keep her until we meet again.
