Nancy Mae Jemison

May 26, 2026 Chichester, Quebec Dignity Memorial

Nancy Mae Jemison "Aunt Nancy" passed away on May 26, 2026, at the age of 81 in Rochester, New York. She was born on February 19, 1945, and was a resident of Rochester, New York. Nancy was predeceased by her sister, Janet Probst; and niece, Debbie Probst. She is survived by her loving sister, Beverly (John) Hanlon; her nieces and nephews, Christine (Doug), Donald (Heather), Michael, Amanda (Nick), and Adam (Hannah). She is also survived by many cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, and close friends. For 50 years, Nancy worked as a secretary for the Rochester City School District Board of Education, where she made many friends and earned lasting respect through steady dedication and the quiet strength of someone who could always be counted on. Nancy embraced life with warmth and intention. She enjoyed bowling well into her 80’s, loved bingo, and was an avid reader. She also loved to travel and lived life to the fullest—her most recent trip an eventful bus ride with her sister to visit the Lucille Ball Museum in Jamestown. Family meant a great deal to Nancy, and she held a special bond with her sister—who, in Nancy’s eyes, was always right and could do no wrong. Nancy’s warmth extended beyond people as well. A wonderful “fur Aunt,” she made a point of giving gifts to all pets at each holiday, a reflection of the tender-hearted care she offered so naturally. Those who knew Nancy will remember a sweet, kind soul with the heart of a fighter—someone who, even when knocked down, would get right back up. At times a little stubborn, she met life with determination and grace, leaving behind a legacy of steadfastness, compassion, and quiet strength. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at Alvah Halloran & Son Funeral Home, 2125 Chili Ave, Rochester, New York 14624, where a Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 10:00 am. Final resting place will be at Riverside Cemetery, 2650 Lake Avenue, Rochester. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Nancy with a memorial contribution to Lollypop Farm.
