Norma J. Smith

Norma J. Smith, 85, of Norwich, passed away on July 2, 2026. She was born in Norwich on May 8, 1941 to the late Ernest and Doris Moon.

Norma married her true love, Erskine Smith, on August 20, 1960, and dedicated many years to helping him run their family dairy farm in Beaver Meadow. Alongside farm life, she had a fulfilling career at Opportunities For Chenango, proudly retiring as their interim Director.

A few notables in her life included her being a gifted baker and cook. Norma catered many wedding receptions and made the wedding cakes in her earlier years. She had a love of shopping, never missing a Black Friday outing with her daughter and she would always bring holiday magic to her family during the Christmas holiday season. Norma always enjoyed spending time together with her family and friends and will be dearly missed.

Norma leaves behind her daughter, JoAnn (George) Cerasani, of Beaver Meadow; her grandchildren, George (Danielle) Cerasani, of New Bern, NC, and David (Kimberly) Cerasani, of Camillus; and her great-grandchildren, Kayla, Karina, Thea, Oliver, and Winona. In addition to her parents, Norma was predeceased by her husband, Erskine, and her son, Robert Erskine Smith.

A funeral service for Norma will take place at 1:00pm on Saturday, July 11, at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich with Rev. Richard Howard officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00am until the time of service. Norma will be laid to rest at Sherburne West Hill Cemetery.
