Mary Eva Patricia “Patty” McKinnon was a devoted Catholic educator, a woman of faith, and a lifelong friend to many. Born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, she attended St. Joseph’s College in North Bay and entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie in 1949, where she was known as Sister Alexis. Her career in Catholic education spanned multiple regions and roles, including teaching elementary and high school students, serving as principal of Marymount College, and working in Catholic education administration in Toronto.
Patty continued her service after retirement, teaching English as a second language and editing Missions Today magazine. She was a Eucharistic Minister at Providence Healthcare and had a significant influence in her community through her dedication to education and faith. She passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026, and her memorial mass was held at Annunciation Church in North York, Ontario.
