Peggy Ann McKnight, 95, of Deer Park, Texas, passed away on June 4, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama on February 21, 1931. Peggy moved to Texas at age 17 and made it her beloved home.
In her early years, Peggy worked in the newborn nursery at St. Joseph’s Hospital and later was an elevator girl at F.W. Woolworth before embracing her greatest calling as a devoted homemaker. She was married to the love of her life, Bill McKnight, for 50+ years. Together they raised two daughters building a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. In 1982, Peggy and Bill started C&S Transport, a family-owned trucking company they were proud to grow together.
Before moving to Deer Park, Bill and Peggy raised their family in southeast Houston, where they made many lifelong friends in the Pine Valley neighborhood.
Some of Bill and Peggy's best times were at their bay house in Bayou Vista, Texas. They enjoyed countless times fishing, boating and water skiing with family and friends.
Peggy had a gift for creativity and poured love into everything she made. She enjoyed decoupage, ceramics, and delighted in sewing for her girls. Above all else, she cherished her family, who were the center of her world and her greatest joy. “Ma,” as she was affectionately known by her grands, was the most generous, sweetest soul. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. She cherished long talks over coffee and was happiest reminiscing about old times in her Deer Park home. Everyone who knew her loved her. She had a gift of making everyone she met feel like family.
Peggy is survived by her sister, Beverly Domingue, husband Roger; her daughters, Shirley Leggett, husband Ron, and Patti Grimes, husband Terry; her grandsons, Brian Leggett, wife Jamie, Brad Leggett, Jason Trevino, wife Nora, Tim Trevino, and Matthew Grimes, wife Casi; and her great-grandchildren, Hayden & Haley Grimes, Gavin & Ella Trevino, and Aubrey Leggett; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Carl McKnight; her parents, Lena Mae and Rueben Madison; her siblings, William “Bill” Madison, Alvin Madison, Patricia Brumbelow, and Harry Madison; and her half-siblings, Rueben “Sonny” Madison, Hazel Franks, and Evelyn Gallo.
Peggy’s warmth, kindness, and steadfast love will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family and friends.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Delaney South Shore assisted living for the loving care they provided our mother.
