In Loving Memory of Phil BronnerPhil Bronner passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026, at the age of 87.He was a dearly loved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who lived an honorable, deeply fulfilling life—one defined by service, strength, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved.Phil was born in Gilroy, California, in 1939 and spent much of his life in San Jose. He proudly served in the United States Navy, working in communications aboard the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La. His time in the Navy gave him the opportunity to travel the world, experiences he remembered fondly. He was especially proud to have served during peacetime. When he returned to California, Phil began a career with Santa Clara County Communications as a 911 dispatcher, a position he proudly held for 30 years. He was the calm voice on the other end of the phone for countless people experiencing some of the worst and most frightening moments of their lives. He had an incredible ability to remain calm under pressure, and he brought kindness, patience, and grace to situations that demanded all three.Phil not only answered calls and helped people in their greatest moments of need, but also trained many of the dispatchers who followed him. Through the people he helped and the knowledge he passed on, the ripple effect of his care and service continues today. He was a true example of strength and resilience. Phil never ran from responsibility. He faced difficult situations head-on, always with quiet determination and a generous heart. That same strength and devotion carried into his family life, where he selflessly cared for his beloved wives, Shirley and Myrna, and remained a steadfast presence for those he loved.Phil was preceded in death by his two incredible wives, Shirley Bronner and Myrna Matranga-Bronner.He leaves behind three very grateful daughters and their husbands: Kim Christian (Mark Snover), Jamie Plantinga (Pete Plantinga), and Kristen Alvarez. He also leaves behind ten adoring grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Pa”: Jacob Christian, Sarah Christian, Shanon Plantinga, Jessica Christian, Alexandra Helm, Tyler Christian, Pierre Plantinga, Ashlie Rodrigues, Westley Plantinga, and Nicholas Helm. And his beloved great-grandchildren: Rhiannon, Shannon, Donovan, Liam, Isaac, Cameron, Hailey, Colton, Tatum, Cassandra, Ezekiel, Theo, and two more on the way.We will all miss Phil/Dad/PA terribly. But the strength, resilience, and determination he showed throughout his life touched more people than he probably realized. His legacy will live on through his family and in the lives of all those he touched. He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and all those who were fortunate enough to know him.Phil Bronner was deeply loved, and he will never be forgotten.
