Phillip H. Minton, a retired general practice attorney, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on Sunday September 27, 2026, at the Barrington of Carmel at the age of 97. After receiving his law degree from Indiana University he practiced law in Indianapolis for over five decades. A respected counselor to clients, colleagues and friends alike, he was highly regarded and sought after for his sound, practical advice given in clear and certain terms.

Phil was born September 26, 1929, in Nebraska the only child of the late Rev. Chester and Virginia Minton.

Phil grew up in Indiana and graduated from Howe Military Academy. He went on to Depauw University where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. After graduating, he served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant. He then went on to Indiana University Law School where he met his wife, Susanne. Phil and Sue married in 1957 and quickly started a family. He had a successful private law practice in Indianapolis until he retired in his early 80’s.

Phil was the most tenured member of his beloved Service Club of Indianapolis, of which his father had been a member as well. He was an avid golfer and a long-time member of Woodland Country Club. While a hole-in-one eluded him, he proudly celebrated his wife’s hole-in-one. He also enjoyed playing tennis and platform tennis.

Phil loved the Lord and loved people. He enjoyed thought provoking conversations about faith and demonstrated a life of quiet service to others. Late in life, he found a passion for fishing in Canada which he enjoyed with a close group of friends and his grandson. In 2024, Phil had the privilege of going on an Honor Flight which he talked about regularly for the balance of his life, routinely attending breakfasts put on by this wonderful organization.

Phil was a character and quick-witted. He was a consummate storyteller and was always ready with a joke. He was also known to break into improvisational song, usually ending in tears of laughter.

In 2024, after 67 years of marriage, Phil lost the love of his life when his beloved wife, Susanne, left this life to meet her Lord. All who interacted with Phil over the last two and a half years know how much he missed her and can now take solace in their being reunited.

Phil is survived by his three children, David Minton and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Minton of Colorado. Jim Minton of St. Louis and Shannon Joslin and son-in-law Jurgen Joslin of Baltimore. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Maggie Minton, Abbie Minton, Keller Minton and Sofia Joslin.

Services to honor and celebrate Phil’s life will be held at Cornerstone Lutheran Church on October 17, 2026. 4850 E. Main Street, Carmel, IN 46033. Visitation at 11:30am followed by a Memorial Service at 12:30p. The family will gather for a private final farewell at the graveside.
