It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ron Fontaine, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, family member, and friend.Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Louise, his daughters, Michelle (Andrew) and Christy (Matt), and his grandchildren, Makaela, Nathan, Sienna, and Chase, who brought him immense pride and joy. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who were an important part of his life.Born in Winnipeg, Ron spent most of his life in Richmond, where he built a life filled with family, friendships, community, and more than his fair share of fun. He was someone who never hesitated to show up for the people he loved. Generous, outgoing, and always ready for a good time, Ron was truly the life of the party. He had a way of bringing people together, making them laugh, and making everyone around him feel welcome.Ron spent many years working for Air Canada and the majority of his career with the Machinists’ Union. His commitment to others extended well beyond his work. He was very active in his community and believed in giving back, especially to those who were less fortunate. Helping others was simply part of who he was.He loved being active and enjoying life. Hockey was a particular passion, and in his later years he continued to be involved in the game as a coach. He also loved golf, good wine, and, most of all, spending time with the people who mattered to him. He cherished his family deeply and was happiest when surrounded by those he loved.Even toward the end of his life, Ron remained focused on the good. He often said that he had lived a great life and had so much fun, “maybe a little too much fun.” That was Ron, grateful for the life he had lived, the people he had met, and the memories he had made.Of all the things he was going to miss, what weighed most heavily on him was not being able to see what his grandchildren would go on to do with their lives. He was so proud of them and wanted to see where life would take them. His love for them, and his excitement about their futures, was a beautiful reflection of how much his family meant to him.Ron lived a full and joyful life. He loved deeply, gave generously, brought laughter wherever he went, and was always there for the people he loved. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and countless people who were better for having known him.He will be deeply loved, deeply missed, and forever remembered.
