Ruby Alleen Cronian

September 18, 2026 Dignity Memorial

Ruby A Cronian was born in Wasco, California on April 1, 1931, and died in Bakersfield, California on September 18, 2026. Ruby lived her entire 95 years in Kern County. We will miss her dearly.

Ruby was the second of three daughters born to Wasco farmers George and Sadie Emerson. She graduated from Wasco High School and soon began her life-long career as a bookkeeper starting out at Wasson and Emerson Potato Growers and Shippers Packing Shed.

Ruby started her own family with her husband Woody in 1951 and gave birth to two children: Karen and Rodger. She balanced the responsibilities of wife, mother and working woman with stamina and grace. She taught her children a guiding principle in life "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Ruby was guided by concerns for fairness, love and loyalty. Indeed, nothing was more important to her than love of primary and extended family. In return, she was well loved by generations of family members. For these traits, she was well regarded throughout her life by those who knew her professionally and personally.

Ruby is predeceased by her husband Oliver (Woody) Cronian, her parents George and Sadie (Hancock) Emerson, her two sisters and their husbands, Vera and Joe Streiff, Fern and Skip Streiff, two nephews, and her son's horse "Henry"; her beloved confidant whom she cared for into her nineties.

Ruby is survived by her daughter, Karen Cronian Hurley (Jim) their two sons, Cameron and Griffin, her son Rodger Cronian (Deborah) and their daughter Kelly Cronian. Ruby is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews. She held love and concern in her heart for all of them.

As she wished and pre-arranged to be, Ruby will be interred with husband Woody on the Veteran's Memorial Hill of Valor in a simple graveside service. Family and friends are invited to join us on Friday, October 9, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Hillcrest Memorial Park 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA.

The family would like to thank Merilyn, Amy and all the care staff and residents of Sage Care Homes. In her final months, they provided comfort, care and sense of community. For this we will always be grateful.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ruby’s name to Hoffman Hospice at www.hoffmanhospice.networkforgood.com or to Sage Care Homes 13612 Night Star Lane, Bakersfield, CA 93314.
