Sharon Johnson Hartless

April 17, 2026 Dignity Memorial

Sharon Johnson Hartless, age 77, of Lynchburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 17, 2026.

Sharon was born at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg on March 22, 1949. She grew up in Madison Heights and graduated from Amherst County High School in 1967. While in high school, Sharon met and began dating the love of her life, Wayne Hartless, and they were married on December 15, 1967.

Sharon was preceded in death by her father and mother, Marshall and Joyce Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Wayne, her sons Troy (Michelle) and Kevin (Kim), her six grandchildren, Savannah, Connor (Mady), Taylor, Carson, Jake, and Lauren, and her brother Jeff Johnson (Terri).

Her husband, Wayne, provided around-the-clock godly, faithful, compassionate, and loving care during Sharon’s final year of life. He lived what his wedding vows said, “to love her in sickness and in health.” Even in her final days, Sharon would still look at him and say, “I love you.”

If you knew Sharon, then you knew she loved her family with great intensity, and she loved Liberty University. She served in the ministry there for more than 40 years, beginning her career as an assistant and retiring as vice president of administration. If you worked at LU, there’s a strong chance you knew of Sharon. She loved her work there, but more importantly, she showed the love of God by how she treated and helped students, which she was most proud of.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Thomas Road Baptist Church Pate Chapel on Tuesday, April 21 at 12:30 pm, with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating.
