Sherman E. Witt, Jr., 90, of Red House, departed this life on August 16, 2026, and went to be with Jesus.

Sherman was born February 15, 1936, in Dunbar, the son of the late Rev. Sherman and Freda Witt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sandra Canterbury and Carmen Winters.Sherman proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine. He was also a successful businessman and served as President of Raleigh Boone Service Co., Kanawha Boone Service Co., Fayette Oil Co., and Sherman E. Witt & Associates.He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lois; his son, Steven Witt; and his daughter, Stephanie (Ron) McPherson.He is also survived by his grandchildren, Doug Witt, Ashton Witt, Brenton McPherson, Colleen Witt, Kaylee (Michael) Meyer, and Brock McPherson; and his great-grandchildren, Gauge Witt, Domenik Vandergrift, Malachi Vandergrift, Kian Crenshaw, and Evelyn Meyer.Sherman is also survived by his siblings, Randall Witt, Judy Wilkinson, Verrill (Norma) Witt, Frances (Merrill) Lanier, James (Brenda) Witt, Joyce O’Dell, Mayford (Cathy) Witt, Bonnie (Jim) Hird, and Dale (Terri) Witt.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, with Rev. Mayford Witt officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens in Cross Lanes, with military rites conducted by St. Albans VFW Post 6418 and American Legion Post 73.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at support.woundedwarriorproject.org.Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.tylermountainfuneralhome.com.
