Shirley Roberts

Shirley R. Roberts, 76, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026.

Born on June 16, 1949, in Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Lorene E. Runge. A dedicated professional, Shirley spent her career working at State Farm until her retirement. She was a woman of strong Christian faith whose interests were as varied as they were passionate. Shirley had a sharp mind for politics, a deep love for literature, a penchant for finding treasures while thrifting, and a true appreciation for good music. Above all else, she was a dedicated animal lover who shared her home and heart with her beloved cats, Roo and McPhee.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her devoted husband, John L. Roberts. She leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by her son, Ross Roberts; her daughter, Sadie Roberts (Patrick Summey); her cherished grandsons, William and Alexander Summey; and her brother, Raymond Runge.

Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel. A graveside service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum.
