Terry, 85, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2026 in Charlotte, NC, in the devoted care of hospice.Born April12, 1941 in Shelbyville IN, he was a son of Lawrence and Lula Mae. He went to Perdue University, where he met his beloved wife, Janet (Jan) Petrovich, of 51 years. He graduated with an engineering degree, then went on to teach high school in Indianapolis for several years. He and Jan married on February 1, 1966. Through his job at Union Carbide, they moved to North Carolina in the early 70s. After the birth of their only child, Timothy, in 1972, they started their own company, Ceramco, Inc. Terry presided over this company until its sale in 2025, to become an innovator of plasma, ceramic, and applied weld overlay technologies.Terry enjoyed sailing, fancy wine, and dogs. In the late 80s, he had a sailboat custom built in England and sailed it across the Atlantic with a crew of three. He would regale people with tales of his adventure for years. In his later years, he became an avid wine enthusiast, acquiring an impressive collection. His greatest loves after his family, were his dogs. Over the years, he’s had Afghans and Salukis that he treated as his own children.He was preceded in death by his wife, Jan. He is survived by his son, Timothy, and his dog Mozzie; as well as his brother Lawrence (Larry) of Indiana, and sisters, and Pamela (Pam) Pherigo of Indiana, and Nancy Karpowitz of Cincinnati.Visitation is planned for Sunday, August 2, 2026 from 1-3pm at McEwen Funeral Service - Pineville Chapel located at 10500 Park Road in Charlotte.For those wishing to send memorial gifts, please consider the Humane Society of Charlotte www.HumaneSocietyofCharlotte.org.
