Thomas Alan Burkett, 68, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 25, 2026 in Palm Bay, FL. Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and beloved Sunday school teacher.
Tom was born on March 21, 1958 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He received the gift of salvation when he was a child and rededicated his life to Christ several years later.
Tom’s father was in the Air Force, so they moved around quite a bit in Tom’s youth. His dad’s final duty station was Patrick Air Force Base, and while stationed there, he and his family started attending First Baptist Church of Merritt Island. This is where Tom met Brenda. They were married in 1979, and went on to have three daughters, Beth, Krista, and Wendy.
Tom loved the Lord and started serving in the church music ministry as a teenager. Since then, he served with the youth at multiple churches, both served in and directed the church choir and congregational music, served as a deacon, and taught Sunday school for many years. Aside from short trips, Tom never served on the mission field, but he had a heart for missions and was on the board for The Carpenter’s Project, a ministry that supports national pastors around the world.
One of Tom’s favorite Bible verses was Isaiah 26:3 - Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusts in thee.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Helen Burkett. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Burkett, daughters, Beth (Justin) Burdette, Krista (Matthew) Decker, Wendy (Andrew) Decker, grandchildren, Addy Franklin, Corey Burdette, Connor Franklin, Gavin Decker, Cameron Decker, Liam Decker, Raisa Decker, and Kai Hooton, and brothers Mike and Jim. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on August 14th at Faith Baptist Church of Palm Bay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Carpenter’s Project.
