Virginia Ley

May 24, 2026 Bedford, Quebec Dignity Memorial

Virginia Ley Stanish of Wexford, Pennsylvania, slipped peacefully from this world on May 24, 2026, with loved ones by her side and with the Lord’s guiding love. She was 68 years old.

Born to Leona C. Dobscha Ley and Walter T. Ley, Ginny lived a life marked by strength and a deep connection with the people she loved.

After completing a degree in Food Science at Penn State University, Virginia went on to excel in a career, first at Borden Inc, and then for decades at the H.J. Heinz Company. She was highly respected throughout the industry as an expert in Quality Control, taking great pride in the role she played in keeping food safe for all of us.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, some of Virginia’s greatest joys were found outdoors. As an equestrian and devoted dog owner, she shared a profound bond with animals. Whether she was training, competing, or simply enjoying quiet time with them, they brought her immense joy and a sense of peace.

In that same spirit, Virginia was a natural athlete with an infectious energy that drew others to her. At Penn State, she proudly played for the Nittany Lions Women’s Basketball team, and her time on the hardwood cemented a lifelong love for team camaraderie, competition, and, of course, the Penn State blue and white.

In later years, golf became another one of her passions. She spent countless happy days at the Wildwood Golf Club, where she cherished crisp mornings on the fairways, the friendly competition of club tournaments, and, most importantly, the enduring friendships she forged at the 19th hole. Her swing was a reflection of her life: precise, powerful, and always looking forward to the next hole. Ginny will be remembered for her sharp wit, independent spirit, generous heart, and unwavering resilience. She approached life the same way she approached athletics — with determination, grace, and the courage to keep moving forward no matter the challenge.

Her presence left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Leona and Walter Ley; her brother, Michael, and her sister-in-law, Brenda. She is survived by her siblings Susan, Ken, and Jerome, and by her beloved partner Frank Stanish. With her many dear friends, we will all deeply miss her.

A celebration of Ginny’s life will be held at North Way Christian Community –12121 Perry Highway, Wexford PA on June 12, 2026 at 1 pm. The family invites all who knew and loved her to join in honoring and remembering her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Virginia’s memory to First Tee Pittsburgh at firstteepittsburgh.org.
