Peacefully, at the age of ninety-eight, on Saturday, May 2, 2026, in Montreal. Beloved wife of the late Myer for sixty-six years. Dear mother and mother-in-law of Alan and Julia of Toronto, Brahm and Lori of California, Fred and Barbara of Montreal. Cherished grandmother of Elissa Wenger and Jonathan Avrahami, Naomi Wenger and Nick Sacchetti; Nicholas and Jen Wenger, Adam and Isabel Wenger; Benjamin Wenger and Maxine Silverman, and Robert Wenger. Delighted and proud great-grandmother (GG) of Micah and Aaron; Dean and Noah; Willow and Tobin; Henry, Charlie, and Jack. Dearest sister and sister-in-law of the late Irene and the late Robert (Bob) Stein; and sister-in-law of Julienne and the late Irving (Ike) Wenger, the late Larry and the late Lillian Wenger. Zees will be missed by her nieces and nephews and their families, and by her many friends.
Zees was the devoted matriarch of a beautiful family that she and Myer lovingly built together. In her youth she was a Zionist, even before the State of Israel came into being. As her name suggests, she was a real “sweetie”, and was the mascot of the Esquire Club, where she met Myer. They soon married in 1947 and spent many happy years golfing, dancing, and wintering in Florida. She also gave many hours to her beloved Hadassah, founding, with Myer, the first charity Pro-Am golf tournament in Montreal (which is still active today). Zees was an inspiration to her family, her community, and all who knew her.
Thank you to Nirith Sharabi and the 5 North Staff at St Mary’s hospital for their care. Our heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers who became her friends - Cecilia, Cynthia, and Julie.
