Annie Larue Harris

On September 7, 2026 my mother Annie LaRue Owen Harris passed away at the age of 94. LaRue was preceeded in death by my father Clyde Arnold Harris Jr. and my younger brother Scott Allen Harris.

LaRue spent her youth in the Heflin, Anniston and Oxford area of Alabama where she would meet and eventually marry her high school sweetheart Clyde. They soon moved to Montgomery to live with Clyde’s parents while he attended and eventually graduated from Alabama Polytechnic University (Auburn).

The young couple soon moved to Tullahoma, TN were Clyde worked at the Arnold Research Center doing testing on the Apollo rocket program. Their first son Ricky was born there. The young couple then moved to Huntsville where their second child Scott was born. Clyde and LaRue both spent many years involved in the space program on projects like the lunar rover, lunar drill and space/sky lab.

LaRue was atways an attentive mother and eager supporter of her boys’ sports programs. As young parents LaRue and Clyde both participated in bowling and softball leagues.

Later, LaRue and Clyde retired seeking to return to farm life that LaRue had grown up with buying a small farm in Gurley. They took on rehabbing a hundred-year-old farm house, planting flowers and tending to her gardens. From the farm girl who grew up without indoor plumbing to working on Space Lab back to a farm girl; what a nice life.

After the loss of Scott, LaRue and Clyde moved to Chattanooga, TN to live with Ricky. After Clyde passed LaRue enjoyed spending time watching her birds and wildlife at her lake home.

LaRue lived a quite peaceful life tending to her family and never asking for things for herself. She carried an enormous amount of sweet southern sass to her last breath.

God loves a county girl.
