Edward Charles Miller, 90, of Houston, Texas, passed away on August 18, 2026, at Harbor Hospice, surrounded by a lifetime of love, family, and memories.
Edward was born on February 11, 1936, in Houston, Texas, to William Jacob Miller and Mamie Edna Hughes. He attended San Jacinto High School in Houston before attending Katy High School while living with Grandma Miller. He later received his GED before entering the United States Marine Corps.
When Edward joined the Marines, he weighed around 220 pounds. During his time in the service, he lost nearly 60 pounds, beginning what would become a lifelong commitment to physical fitness. He proudly served during the Korean War as a mortarman. in the Korean War and when discharged was a Corporal (E-3). He also boxed while in the Marines and competed in boxing competitions, where his extra-long arms certainly gave him an advantage.
Not long after his military service, Edward began building the life that would mean the most to him. On February 2, 1957, he married the love of his life, DeeLoyce Leighnae LeFever. Their marriage would span an incredible 66 years.
Just two weeks before they were married, the young couple decided to purchase a brand-new home. At the time, they owned a turquoise car, and when they came across a turquoise house, they knew it was meant to be theirs. That house, 655 Arvana, became their home and the place where so many of their family's memories began.
Together, Edward and DeeLoyce raised their children, Deborah and Eddy, and also carried throughout their lives the memory of their daughter, Carrie Renaye Miller, who was born June 8, 1961 and lived less than a day.
After leaving the military, Edward worked as a welder at Tuboscope and numerous other places before beginning a career at Oxirane Chemical Company, which later became Lyondell. He eventually retired from the plant and often said it was the best job he ever had. Edward never forgot the people who helped him along the way and was always especially thankful to Charlie Day from church, who helped him get his job at the plant.
Faith was an important part of Edward's life. He was active in the congregation at Gulfway Baptist Church and later Freeway Manor Church, serving as a Deacon for many years. About a year ago, he joined South Main Baptist Church in Pasadena, Texas, continuing his lifelong connection to his faith and church community.
Once their children were grown, Edward and DeeLoyce enjoyed the opportunity to travel and see more of the world together. Of all the places they visited, the Grand Ole Opry held a special place in their hearts. It became one of their favorite destinations, and they returned countless times over the years.
Edward and DeeLoyce also shared a love for the outdoors. Wanting a place where they could enjoy it together and spend time with their family, they built a lake house on Lake Conroe. The lake house became a gathering place where they often hosted family and created countless memories. Edward also devoted plenty of time there to trying to become the best fisherman around.
Perhaps one of the greatest examples of Edward's love and devotion came later in his marriage. When DeeLoyce suffered a stroke 19 years ago, Edward stepped in without hesitation to care for his "Honey." He became her full-time caretaker, faithfully caring for the woman he loved and demonstrating through his actions the commitment behind the vows they had made so many years before.
Edward leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Deborah Womack (Thomas), and his son, Eddy Miller (Cassie); his grandchildren, Thomas (Lisette), Katherine, Derek (Chelsey), Kristin (Josh), and Katelyn (Garrett); and his great-grandchildren, Tres, Benny, Oliver, Henry, Logan, Tanner, Cole, Madelyn, Ava, and Aubrey. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Martha Jane Bassett Miller.
Edward was preceded in death by his daughter, Carrie Renaye Miller; his father, William Jacob Miller; his mother, Mamie Edna Hughes; his mother-in-law, Clara Maxine Alley; his father-in-law, Reagan Norman LeFever; his stepfather-in-law, Dennis Goss; his brother, William Gerald Miller; his sister-in-law, DeeLynn LeFever Carter; his brother-in-law, Theodore Carter; and his grand son-in-law, Frank Burkhardt.
Edward's 90 years were filled with service—to his country, his church, his work, and, most importantly, his family. From a young Marine and boxer, to a hardworking welder and refinery employee, to a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, fisherman, deacon, and devoted caretaker, Edward lived a life centered on commitment and taking care of the people he loved.
His family will remember the many stories, trips, days at Lake Conroe, visits to the Grand Ole Opry, and years spent together at the turquoise house on Arvana. Most of all, they will remember a man who remained devoted to his family and to his "Honey" throughout a lifetime together.
