Evelyn Bearden Chatelain

Evelyn Marie Chatelain went to be with the Lord on September 8, 2026 at the age of 98 in Burnet, Texas. She was born in 1928 in Beaumont, Texas to Floyd Taylor DeLoach and Annette Lindner DeLoach.Evelyn was raised in Houston and attended Sam Houston High School where she was an officer with the Black Battalion Drum & Bugle Corps. She married Virgil Preston Bearden on June 16, 1950, and celebrated 52 years of marriage before Virgil’s death in 2002. Evelyn and Virgil had a daughter, Sherry Lee, and a son, Richard Glen.Evelyn was a loving mother and wife and enjoyed cooking and holidays. Her favorites were Thanksgiving and Christmas and made Sherry promise to put a Christmas tree on her grave every year. She was a proud Methodist and volunteered at church and sang in the choir. Evelyn never met a stranger. She loved meeting people and had many friends.In September, 2005, Evelyn married Richard Chatelain and remained together until his death in 2021.Evelyn (aka Meemaw) was blessed with 3 grandchildren (Lisa, Christopher, and Lori) and 9 great-grandchildren (Braden, Reed, Annabelle, Grant, Madilynn, Brody, Levi, Weston and Brynlee.) She adored her grandchildren and made many special memories with all of them.Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Floyd T DeLoach and Annette DeLoach; brother Floyd T DeLoach, Jr.; sister Alta Wells; husband Virgil Bearden; son-in-law Terry Wimmer; and husband Richard Chatelain.Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Sherry Lee Wimmer (Dale Pressler); son Richard Glen Bearden; Granddaughter Lisa Marie Ridgley (Mike); Grandson Christopher Kyle Wimmer (Lynnsey); Granddaughter Lori Michelle Faught (Chris); 9 grandchildren – Braden Ridgley, Reed Ridgley, Annabelle Ridgley, Grant Wimmer, Madilynn Wimmer, Brody Faught, Levi Faught, Weston Faught, and Brynlee Faught.In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
