Floyd Banda

It is with eyes filled with tears and broken hearts trembling under the sorrow of this moment, as the Banda Family shares the passing of their beloved Florentino “Floyd” Banda, who was called home into the eternal arms of our Lord and Savior on July 14, 2026, at the loving age of 73. Though Heaven has gained an angel, the world below has been left quieter, dimmer, and forever changed by the absence of a husband, dad, grandpa (Popo), father-in-law, brother and uncle whose steady love was the heartbeat of his family.

Floyd was born on July 8, 1953, in Eagle Pass, Texas. He was the cherished son of Felicitas Rodriguez Vega and Francisco Banda, and stepson of Benito Vega Sr. The gentleness and respect that marked Floyd’s life were evident to all who knew him, shaped by a patient spirit and a kind heart, and strengthened by the guidance and love instilled by his grandfather, Ruperto Zamarron Rodriguez.

A musician at heart, Floyd played guitar and bajo sexto in his family’s band, Los Misteriosos de Benito Vega. His appreciation for music spanned Tejano, Country/Western, and Gospel, and he began each day with a gospel song by Paulino Bernal, “Un dia a la vez”—a simple practice that reflected the quiet faith and steady gratitude with which he met life.

Floyd dedicated himself to a life of purpose through his work as an auto painter and paint technician for 57 years, most recently at Finish Master and LKQ. In an industry where skill is earned through time, discipline, and integrity, Floyd was regarded by colleagues and coworkers as a “Legend in the Industry,” respected and valued by all who had the honor of working alongside him. His calm presence, practical wisdom, and ability to solve what others could not, made him someone people trusted—someone they counted on.

A faithful Christian, Floyd attended Grace Church in Humble, Texas, where he found comfort in worship, scripture, and the promises of eternal life. Above all else, our family’s life was anchored in our faith, always striving to put God First in everything we did. He found joy and peace in life’s simplest and purest pleasures: the outdoors, mowing the grass, talking with neighbors, and taking restful walks. And for all his gentleness, Floyd also carried a spirited love of the open road, enjoying rides on his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Above all, Floyd’s greatest joy was his family, especially his two grandchildren, Levy and Aviana Valdez, who were the center of his soul. He never missed their softball or baseball games and often attended their practice sessions, finding genuine happiness in the everyday moments of dropping them off and picking them up from school. He carried the love of his wife of 48 years, his daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, siblings, and extended family like a crown upon his heart.

Floyd will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather (Popo), son, brother, son-in-law, uncle, and friend—an anchor of strength, a steady source of wisdom, and a gentle presence who left a lasting imprint on every life he touched. He was often described by those who knew him as “Un GRAN Hombre,” a Great Man. Floyd’s beautiful smile and big personality could brighten a room; his humor brought comfort and calm, and his steady, capable nature made him a problem solver in the truest sense—never presented with a challenge he could not face with patience and clarity.

As Floyd took his final breath on this earth on July 14, 2026, Heaven opened its gates to receive him with a love far greater than our sorrow. At that moment, every pain disappeared, every burden was lifted, and every earthly care faded into everlasting joy. He goes home to our Lord to be reunited with his father, Francisco Banda; his mother, Felicitas Vega; his stepfather, Benito Vega; and his brother, R.J. Rafael Jose Gonzales Jr. What a beautiful, indescribable reunion it must have been that was filled with tears of joy, embraces long overdue, and the warm light of our Lord’s eternal promise. Though our hearts break knowing we can no longer see him here, the Banda Family takes comfort in knowing Floyd now rests in the fullest peace, surrounded by those he loved so dearly.

Floyd’s beautiful legacy of faith, unconditional love, hard work, and unwavering devotion to family will continue living and treasured by the love of his life and devoted wife of 48 sacred years, Cynthia Cardenas Banda, whose hand he held through every blessing, every storm, and every precious day God allowed them; his daughter, Beverly Banda, who carries with her, her father’s strength, comfort, calm, humor and unwavering love; his son-in-law, Moises Valdez; his cherished grandchildren, Levy Valdez and Aviana Valdez; brothers, Joe Frank Banda, Robert Lee Vega (Vera), and Benito Vega Jr. (Sarah); sisters, Gloria G. Sanchez and Linda Reyes (Jerry); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, sister- and brothers-in-law, mother-in-law, extended relatives, and dear friends whose lives are forever blessed by the impact Floyd made on this earth.

The Banda Family extends a warm and heartfelt invitation to all who knew and loved Floyd to join them as they gather to honor, remember, and celebrate his extraordinary life.
