Obituary

James "Jimmy" Leo Monds

July 30, 2026 Compton, Quebec Dignity Memorial

James “Jimmy” Leo Monds, age 83, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at his home in Clayton, North Carolina.

Born on April 16, 1943, he was a son to the late James Lawrence Monds and Mattie Bell Solis Monds. Jimmy, as he was known by his family, was a quiet, humble, and devoted man. He dearly loved his wife of 49 years, Frances, and always made sure she was taken care of. When you saw one, you usually saw the other, as they did everything together. He loved to travel and would often wake Frances up in the mornings, telling her to get ready and they would hit the road with no plans of where they were going and would end up anywhere from South Carolina, Virginia, or where a back road would lead them. Their favorite place to travel was the mountains, but the memories are endless from their travels with family and friends to many places around the country. He had a great passion for music and learned to play bass, guitar, and pedal steel guitar. He played in numerous bands and could be found jamming with family and friends on any given night of the week. If he was not traveling or playing music, he was spending his time gardening with Frances, watching old westerns on TV, or going to a track to watch a race. Jimmy was a very dependable hard working man who received many awards and certificates of appreciation from his employers. He owned and operated Jackson’s Grocery in Dunn, North Carolina before being employed by Lundy’s Packing Plant where he retired as a plant superintendent after 42 years with them. After his retirement, he decided to return to the workforce where he worked at Food Lion in different locations working in the meat department up until a month before his passing.
