Jesusa “Susie” Valdez Ronquillo, beloved wife and mother, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully with her family beside her at the age of 88.Susie was born in Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines to Mariano Valdez and Gertrudis Labiano Valdez. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Philippine Women’s University in Manila in 1963.In 1966, She married the love of her life, Romeo “Romy” Ronquillo, and together they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family. In 1968, Susie immigrated with her husband to the United States where she continued her education by earning a certificate in Medical Technology. She went on to work as a Medical Technologist at Memorial Hospital Southwest in Houston, TX. She had 2 children, Jerome and Michelle, who she fiercely loved very much.Together with Romy, Susie helped build the foundation of the Filipino community in Houston in the 1980’s. They devoted countless hours to preserving and sharing Filipino Culture through traditional folk dancing and cultural performances celebrating their heritage and creating lasting connections among the Filipino families in the Houston area.Outside of her profession, Susie found great joy in gardening. She lovingly cultivated native vegetables, plants, and flowers that reminded her of her hometown in the Philippines. She was happiest tending to her garden and sharing it’s bounty with friends to enjoy.Susie is lovingly survived by her son, Jerome and his wife Maggie; her daughter, Michelle; her loyal dog, Boba and a kitty cat she named Pepperoni.She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Romy; her parents, Mariano and Gertrudis Valdez, and her brothers, Dr. Leon Valdez and The Honorable Judge Gil Valdez.Susie will be remembered, for her unwavering faith in the Lord, her kind and gentle spirit, and her deep devotion to her family.Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now at peace in the presence of her savior and reunited with those who have gone before her.A visitation will be held at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077, US, on August 6, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.A funeral service will be held at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077, US, on August 7, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.A committal service will be held at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077, US, on August 7, 2026, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.
