Melvin Leroy Martin

Melvin Leroy Martin was born in Houston, Texas December 19, 1944 to John Delbert Martin Jr and Betty Richardson Logan, who both preceded him in death. On May 29, 2026 the merciful hand of God moved very gently, quietly and lovingly called Melvin from his earthly labor to his heavenly home.

Melvin was educated in the HISD school system through 12th grade and attended Prairie View A&M University before joining the Army on January 25, 2968. He was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War.

Through some of early years of his life, he worked as a professional bartender in various black owned night clubs in the Houston area. In later years he worked for Builder’s Square, Home Depot, and his own home repair and ceiling fan installation business.

On June 20, 1981, Melvin married Gwenevere Ruth Wilson, who preceded him in death. Their marital union produced a daughter, Cristen Janell Martin, born on September 26, 2026, who he leaves to cherish and treasure his memory.

Also, Melvin leaves to cherish his memory his brothers: John Delbert Martin III(Melissa), Reginald Lynn Martin Sr (Emelda Lemond), Marvin Evans Sr (Beatrice Jordan), Carlton Martin (spouse name unknown), Step son, Curtis Wilson. Nephews and Nieces: Reginald Lynn Martin Jr (Merinda Watkins), Roland Sebastian Martin (Jacquelyn Hood), LeVita Martin Marshall (Mannaser Dean Marshall, Jr), Zina Rene Martin (John Cobb), Kenneth Martin, Edmond Samuels (Khelly Rochelle Brock), Elton Ladd (Tracey Murray), Marvin Evans, Jr (Kimberly O'Hara), Denise Baker Erhahon, Latonia Baker, Jimmy Baker Jr. Great Nephews and Nieces: Marvin E. Evans III, Harper Evans, De'Ja and Mya Ladd, Alantis Martin (Matthew Lopez) dtr Phoebe, Robin Martin, Chloe Lynn Marshall, Mannaser Dean Marshall III, Faith Gabrielle Marshall, Solomon David Marshall (dtr Amani), Mykayla Jonae Williams, Chelsea Nicole Williams, Rachell Michelle Williams, Raquel Monique Williams, Elizabeth Elaine Martin, Christopher Lynnn Martin, Amber McTaggart, Sadie O'Gilvie,Makayla Mayes ,Zoe Mayes; Jordan, Savannah, Marcus, Aiden and Micah Samuels.

Melvin is also preceded in death by his grandparents John Delbert Martin Sr and Lucinda Jackson; Willie Richardson and Lorene (Love) Butler Washington; Uncle Jewel Howard Martin; Sisters: Barbara Samuels and Juanita Martin Baker; Niece, Kenya Martin Williams and a host of cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, Texas 77038, on July 10, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.

A Committal Service with Military Honors will take place at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038, on July 10, 2026, from 10:45 am to 11:15 am; please arrive at Houston National Cemetery in Lane 2 and remain in your vehicles.
