Michael S Grant

Michael S. Grant, 64, of Potsdam, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026, surrounded by the community and family he loved so deeply. Mike was born on April 3, 1962, in Potsdam, New York, and was the son of the late Gary Grant and Ingrid Karl. He was also predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Otto and Hilda Strauss, and his paternal grandparents, Ronald and Bernice Grant.

Mike was a proud graduate of Potsdam High School and Clarkson University. He dedicated more than 32 years of service to Niagara Mohawk, later National Grid, where he worked as a respected Field Technician, Foreman for the Northern Service Department, and Chief Service Representative.

While Mike took great pride in his career, nothing meant more to him than his family. He was the devoted father of Kyle (Kimberly) Grant and Kalie (Hayden) Hart, and a loving son to Ingrid Karl. Mike was a cherished brother to Brian Grant and his wife, April, and Shawn Grant and his partner, Melissa Medlock. He was also a proud uncle to Brianna and Cooper Grant. There was never any question how deeply Mike loved his family.

A fixture in the local hockey community, Mike devoted more than 20 years to the Potsdam Youth Hockey Association as a coach and mentor. He guided the Potsdam Girls Ice Storm teams to two state championships and two national tournament appearances, leaving a lasting impact on countless young female athletes and families throughout the community.

Mike was happiest outdoors, always working on a project, tending to the lawn, or helping someone in need. He was known for his generosity, strong work ethic, humor, easy smile, and willingness to lend a hand whenever it was needed. Family and friends will remember him as someone who was always happy, always dependable, and always there for the people he loved.

Services will be held at Garner Funeral Home in Potsdam. Calling hours will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, with a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Bayside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Potsdam Youth Hockey, P.O. Box 635, Potsdam, NY 13676, in Mike’s name.

Mike’s kindness, dedication, and love for his family and community will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
