Sharron Sue Hughes, 82, of Bessemer, Alabama, passed away Monday, July 6, 2026. She was born October 19, 1943 in Roanoke, Virginia, to the late Gilbert Marion Thomas and Pauline Caldwell Thomas.
After graduation from North Miami (Florida) High School, Sharron earned her undergraduate and Master's degrees from Saint Thomas University and Barry University. She taught reading for several years in the Miami Dade School System. In her leisure, she enjoyed dancing and relaxing on sea cruises.
In addition to her parents, Sharron was preceded in death by her husband, Burton Hughes, to whom she was married on April 1, 2000. She is survived by two children, Kathy Sciarrotta (Joseph) of Helena, Alabama, and James Roberts of Cantonment, Florida; one grandson, Joey Sciarrotta; and a brother, Gilbert Marion Thomas (Jeanne).
Visitation & Sharing Time will be at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama on Thursday, July 30, 2026 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., immediately followed by a Celebration of Life Party at Hey Bebe Where Yat? Restaurant in Maylene, Alabama.
