Andrew Kasper—beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, physician, mentor, musician, and friend—passed away on August 9, 2026, surrounded by a family that adored him

Andrew was born January 6, 1951, in Paterson, New Jersey, to Marge and Andrew Kasper. He grew up in North Jersey, attending St. John’s Academy in Hillsdale and Our Lady of Mercy School in Park Ridge for elementary school, and later St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale and Park Ridge High School. At Park Ridge High, he was famously voted “least likely to graduate,” an honor that became increasingly funny as the rest of his life unfolded.

Andrew went on to attend the University of Mississippi, where he earned a degree in mathematics and chemistry with a minor in English. He went on to earn his medical degree at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, graduating at the top of his class.

In 1974, Andrew married Sherry Gambino, whom he met through his sister Mary in Kinnelon, New Jersey. That same year, he survived cancer. Andrew and Sherry began their family before moving to Hartford, Connecticut, where he completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiology at Hartford Hospital.

He returned to New Jersey to open his medical practice in Ridgewood and became a co-founder of Ridgewood Cardiology at Valley Hospital. He and Sherry lived in River Vale before ultimately settling in Montvale.

Medicine was only one part of Andrew’s remarkably curious life. Before and alongside his career as a physician, he worked for the Postal Service, did carpentry and air-conditioning repair, sold musical instruments, served with the Park Ridge Fire Department, and at one point was its junior chief.

There seemed to be very little Andrew couldn’t do, and even less that he wasn’t interested in learning. He loved building, collecting, and, at one time, racing his cars. He loved electronics, carpentry, gardening, landscaping, raising chickens, stained glass, and making things with his hands. He was an artist and a musician who played piano, guitar, and mandolin. He loved to play silly games with his kids, to teach, and he was a natural tutor and mentor.

But his greatest gift may have simply been the way he made people feel. Andrew was funny, kind, generous, curious, and an extraordinary listener. He had a way of giving someone his complete attention and making them feel, in that moment, like they were his best friend. His patients adored and trusted him, not only because he was an exceptional physician, but because he cared deeply about the people sitting across from him.

He brought that same generosity to his family. He was a teacher, a fixer, a gatherer, a source of advice and laughter, and the patriarch of a large family that loved being together. His home was a place where people gathered, learned, argued, laughed, played games, made music, ate, and stayed awhile.

Andrew was predeceased by his mother, Marge DiYanni-Kasper, and father, Andrew Kasper, his beloved nephew, Ryan Kasper, and his brothers-in-law, Anthony Gasperino and Bill Flisher.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry, his children, Andy, Chris and his partner Kiley, Mike and his wife Ella, Stephanie and her husband Esteban, Emily and her husband Greg, and David and his wife Kristen; and his grandchildren, Max, Jack, Gabby, Drew, Christian, Lily, Michaella, Charlotte, Lucas, DJ, Matilda, and Ava.

He is also survived by his siblings, Mary, Carol, Lorraine, Joan, John, and Joe, as well as 26 nieces and nephews and an enormous extended family of relatives, friends, colleagues, students, and patients whose lives were made better by knowing him.

Andrew accomplished an extraordinary amount in his life, but those who knew him will remember something much simpler: He was interested in people. He listened. He taught. He made things. He fixed things. He made people laugh. And he made people feel important.

He was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.
