Barbara B. Salem

Barbara B. Salem, 96, passed away peacefully in her home on September 28 surrounded by her loved ones.

Barbara was born in Mt Vernon, NY to Edith and Harold Benson. She was preceded in death by her one sibling, Donald Benson. She married Michael Salem in June 1968 and moved from Scarsdale, NY to Wakefield, MA. Barbara has one son, Joseph Michael DeWeever and 3 stepchildren, Patricia Rogers, Michael Salem Jr, and Adrienne Prendergast (deceased).

Barbara received her Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of NY in 1952 and her Master’s degree from Hunter College in 1966. Barbara taught for many years teaching Business and Accounting at Northeast Regional Vocational Technical High School in Wakefield, MA. After her retirement she and Michael moved to Florida. She was currently living in Kings Isle in Port St Lucie, Florida. Barbara loved to knit and spent many hours knitting prayer shawls for the shut-ins through her church, Redeemer Lutheran Church in Stuart, Florida. In the past she was involved in the Sweet Adelines singing group, the red hats and the Honky Tonk Girls. She loved to sing and dance with these groups and in her later years she became MC for the group and loved to tell jokes to get the crowd pumped up.

She leaves behind her children, Joseph, Patricia and Michael as well as her sister-in-law Margaret Benson and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

Barbara’s faith was very strong, so we know that she is looking down upon us from Heaven. She has gone to be with her savior, Jesus.

A memorial service will be held on October 17, 2026, at 10 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church & School, 2450 SE Ocean Blvd, Stuart, FL 34996
