Bettie "BeBe" Jones

Bettie “BeBe” Jones, 83, of Baytown, Texas, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Houston, Texas, on August 6, 1943, to the late Elizabeth and Burton Burrus, Sr. BeBe proudly graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, in Baytown, the class of 1961. In 1963, she married the love of her life, a young man by the name of Jimmy Jones. Together they spent the next 63 years building a beautiful life together, while raising their two children. BeBe was an active member of Cedar Bayou Baptist Church, in Baytown. She was also a member of The Eastern Stars. After marriage, she went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree from Lamar University. She then obtained her master’s degree from Prairie View A&M University. Educating children was one of her greatest passions. She began her career at Anahuac ISD where she worked for two years. Afterwards, she joined GCCISD where she would retire after 36 years. BeBe pursued many interests, some of which included love for her church and the many friends she had there. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. When her children were younger, she enjoyed camping and traveling with them. BeBe was truly a social butterfly, she looked forward to meeting up with old classmates for a good lunch while catching up with current events, and she never missed a class reunion. On the other hand, she treasured the simple things in life like just staying at home with her husband and reading books. Above all, her greatest joy came from the precious time spent with her grandchildren. She was extremely proud of each one and their accomplishments. She was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind to cherish her loving memory her beloved husband Jim; her children Larrisa Newport and husband Scotty, and Jimmy Jones and wife Angie; her grandchildren Abigal and Emma Jones, Hudson Newport and wife Brynna, Elizabeth Newport and fiancé Jack, and Charlotte Newport; her great-grandson Henry Newport; her brother Burton Burrus, Jr.; her numerous nieces and nephews; and her many cousins; along with a host of other loving relatives and friends.
