Mrs. Bakkeren was a native of the Netherlands, more precisely of Amsterdam. She spent most of her life in Amstelveen.

She was a religious, hardworking, determined and proud woman. Behind her natural authority lay a heart of gold and an immense generosity. Her kindness spoke through her actions.

She emigrated to Australia with her husband and two children in 1966, where she lived until 1970, before returning to the Netherlands. Mrs. Bakkeren then emigrated to Canada in 1998 with her husband to join their daughter Esther who had emigrated to Canada in 1981.

Mrs. Bakkeren was predeceased by her husband Coenraad Bato van Hilst and her sisters Ina and Thea Bakkeren as well as her brother Henk Bakkeren.

Mrs. Bakkeren leaves to mourn her children: Frederik Wilhelm van Hilst and Esther van Hilst (René); her grandchildren: Stefan Lebel (Sara), Julien Lebel, Guillaume Lebel (Maëlle), Catherine Lebel (Olivier) and David Lebel (Alexandra); as well as her great-grandchildren: Alexi Lebel, Charlotte Lebel-Angrignon, Livia Lebel and Romy Lebel-Angrignon. She also leaves Raynald Lebel, the father of her grandchildren, as well as her Dutch nephews and nieces.
