Clyde James Fontenot, 78, of Welsh, Louisiana, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026. He was born on July 6, 1948, in Kinder, Louisiana, to Elwin J. Fontenot and Verna LaFleur Fontenot.
Clyde proudly and bravely served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he attended McNeese State University.
Those left to cherish his memory include his three children, Rachel Nevils of Welsh, Eric Fontenot and wife, Racquel, of Welsh, and Jeremy Fontenot of Baton Rouge; six grandchildren, Devin Fontenot, Dylan Fontenot, Jacob Nevils and wife Kelly, Lauren Fontenot and partner Bobby Kratzer, Elizabeth Cormier and husband John, Katy Nevils and partner Jason Frazee, and Madilyn Martin; and eight great-grandchildren, Anniston Rose Fontenot, Carter James Fontenot, James Scott Nevils, Clara Marie Nevils, Isaac John Cormier, Wallace Cormier, Kameron Kratzer, and Caroline Kratzer. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon Shepherd and husband John of Deweyville, TX.
Clyde was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Cheryl Oliver Fontenot, and his parents, Elwin J. Fontenot and Verna LaFleur Fontenot.
