David Luis Ramos

23 septembre 2026 Dignity Memorial

David Luis Ramos was a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was defined by dedication, curiosity, service, and, above all, love for his family.

David was born to Robert Ramos and Romula Peña. He grew up to become a man who was interested in many things and never stopped learning. He had a passion for hobbies and collecting, including coins and firearms. That fascination, along with his natural sense of purpose and desire to serve others, helped lead him toward a career in law enforcement—a career that would become a defining part of his life.

At just 19 years old, David began his law enforcement career with the Edinburg Police Department. Two years later, at the age of 21, he joined the McAllen Police Department, where he became the department’s first motorcycle police officer. His dedication and creativity left a lasting mark on the department. David was also the designer of the McAllen Police Department patch that officers continue to wear today, a lasting reminder of his contribution and the pride he took in his profession.

Throughout his career, David continued to challenge himself and expand his knowledge. He eventually became involved with a task force and special operations work, where he handled narcotics, auto theft, and homicide investigations. His years of experience gave him an extraordinary wealth of knowledge in law enforcement, and he became someone others could depend on for his experience, determination, and understanding of the work.

David’s dedication did not go unnoticed. Over the course of his career, he received numerous awards and recognitions for his hard work, achievements, and service. Yet for all the accomplishments he earned professionally, those who knew him best knew that his greatest accomplishments were not found in a badge, an award, or a case file.

They were found at home.

David was a wonderful father and an especially proud grandfather. No matter how demanding his work became, he understood the importance of leaving work at work. He never brought the weight of his job home with him. His family knew him not simply as an accomplished law enforcement officer, but as Dad, Grandpa, and family—a man who could set aside the seriousness of his profession and simply be present for the people he loved.

He leaves behind his children, David Ramos and Ashley Marie Ramos (Eli Infante); his grandchildren, Noah Ramos, Presly Ramos, and Tro Ramos; and his siblings, Oscar Ramos and Mary Beltran. His family was a central part of his life, and the love he shared with them will continue through the memories, stories, and traditions they carry forward.

David’s life was one of service, accomplishment, and devotion. He spent much of his life protecting and serving others, building a career that reflected his knowledge and commitment. But beyond the uniform and the years of service was a man who loved his family deeply and wanted to be there for them.

His legacy can be seen in the work he accomplished, in the officers who continue to wear the patch he designed, and in the many people whose lives he touched throughout his career. But perhaps his most meaningful legacy will always be the one he leaves with his children and grandchildren—the lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the love he gave so freely.

David Luis Ramos will be remembered for the life he lived, the people he served, and the family he loved. His accomplishments may be recorded in the history of his career, but his greatest legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him and loved him.

May he rest peacefully, knowing that he was deeply loved, greatly respected, and will never be forgotten.
